Kind of like how Mel's hole wasn't really just about a hole. We'll be taking a look at some of the surprisingly un-Christmas-like characteristics of the unincorporated community of Christmas Valley, Oregon! Anusha is associated with Period.org, an organization that raises awareness on period poverty and fights to end the stigma against menstruation. Anusha and Natalie chat about her experiences going in front of Ohio legislators to speak against pink taxes on feminine products. They also do a deep dive on how period stigma plays a role in everyone’s lives and how the culture needs to change around menstruation so we can further everyone’s comfort in our society and within the workforce.

Christmas…the most festive time of the year. I have fond memories of decorating the tree, helping my mom with the lights or at least attempting to, hanging the stockings on the mantel, being with family, eating amazing food, and then on Christmas Day - seeing a bounty of presents under the tree with our home being filled with joy, love and laughter.

But my question is; where did all the traditions of Christmas come from? Many will say that it is the birth of Christ that we are celebrating. Is that the case, or are our traditions far older than we realize? So, settle in with some hot cocoa, eggnog, or whatever you prefer, and listen to the true origins of some of our Christmas Traditions.

Five-year-old Dan Mitchell would be settled in bed, with his parents down the hall, when the visitor would arrive. Gracefully prancing through the young boy's bedroom, it would communicate through telepathy, theatrics, and movement. The tall, thin androgynous figure would appear to be in a permanent state of shock with eyes wide and a mouth formed into a large O. Its face had an almost ancient look to it, but its hands were its most notable feature to the young boy as he felt he recognized them somehow, they were the hands of his ancestors.

Prophecies, possessions, poltergeists, oh my, this episode is a veritable stew of the strange and unusual. Alissa serves up the first tale in this frightful feast by relaying the haunted lore that planted the seed from whence SkeleTales grew. An innocent inquiry about a petite pink house on a local Facebook page reveals that something dark may be lurking within its pastel walls.

Much like the blush abode is Alissa’s tale, the cat in Britt’s story most certainly has a secret of its own. Intent on protecting its owner, a paradoxically soft-spoken woman named Yeli, the fearless feline named Leah wages a nocturnal war with a dark-haired entity seemingly intent on making good on what Alissa assumes is a curse that spans generations.

And, while on the topic of generations, Alissa seizes the opportunity to once again make a show of her impressive family line with yet another tale of that drunken tramp of a great-great-great-great grandpa, Johnny Boy Gribben. Sans axe, the old Gribbs manages to terrorize the streets of Victorian Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with something far more terrifying.

"A Rose for Emily" by William Faulker was first published in 1930, and was his first short story to be published in a national magazine. As a pioneer of Southern Gothic literature, Faulkner perfectly embodied the disturbing, decaying, and grotesque that stem from alienation; all trademarks of Southern Gothic. In this episode, we discuss Faulkner's nonlinear format for the story, his inspiration for the story, and how these relate to the style of Southern Gothic.

We lose our train of thought, Hannah is right (once again), and racism of the deep South in post-Civil War times rears its ugly head. In our longest episode to date, we do a thorough analysis of the story, including symbols Faulkner wouldn't have wanted us to find, and find out why a story about a rose, is actually terrifying.
Faulkner's history was obtained from "Seagull Book of Stories" an anthology edited by Joseph Kelly.

By the family’s accounts, what they experienced during their time living there was something out of your worst reveries. Megan retells an encounter story that happened quite close to our home of an encounter of the black-eyed children. Isaac tells about a Youtube content creator that actually aims to find evidence of this legend as well as a couple of encounters he has heard over the years. This is definitely one of the scarier episodes we have recorded but we definitely enjoyed diving deep into legend.

In Episode 32, Abby takes a deep dive into the world of haunted objects and tells the crew all about the dibbuk (dybbuk) box.
Surfacing online in a long 2003 Ebay listing was an antique wine box which was allegedly inhabited by a dibbuk, referenced in Jewish folklore as a restless spirit looking to possess a living person.
Kevin Mannis, the man who listed it on Ebay, described at length the ordeals he and his family had been through since acquiring the box and seemed to be desperate to get rid of it.
Tune in to hear about all of the different owners of the dibbuk box and their haunting experiences while possessing what some would call the most haunted object on earth.
